Sample Industry Value Chain

The sample industry value chain shown below indicates which role(s) are expected to issue which UNCRMTP credential types. Replace this diagram with your industry-specific value chain mapping.

Any actor that has an identifier of a product, facility, or organisation can find the issued credentials and verify them. In general, downstream actors will be verifiers of upstream credentials.

Implementation Guidance

Each implementer role should follow links to the relevant credential specifications and ensure that they are issuing credentials according to the relevant specification. In most cases the technical implementation will be done by underlying software systems. However it is still important that each actor confirm that the UNCRMTP credentials issued by their chosen systems are valid by dropping them into the conformity testing service.

RoleIssuer ofComments
Sample CertifierConformity CredentialDescribe how certification credentials are issued, what they certify, and what identifiers they reference. Include notes about traceability requirements specific to your industry.
Sample ProducerDigital Product PassportExplain the product passport requirements for producers. Note any delegation options if producers lack compatible software systems.
Sample ProcessorDigital Product Passport and Traceability EventDescribe processing events and how they link input products to output products. Explain batch tracking and traceability requirements.
Sample IntermediaryNone or Traceability EventExplain whether intermediaries need to issue credentials. If not, explain why (e.g., no impact on ESG or safety qualities). If yes, describe what events they should record.
Industry RegulatorConformity CredentialDescribe regulatory credentials relevant to your industry. Explain how these could be issued as UNCRMTP credentials to enable verification by trading partners and authorities.

Identity Anchors

Identity anchors add increased trust to the UNCRMTP ecosystem because they link the DIDs (Self-issued IDs) of actors such as producers, processors, etc. to authoritative registers such as business registries, industry-specific registries, or customer keys. They are very simple credentials and are simple to issue. Their purpose and detailed implementation guidance are provided in the Digital Identity Anchor (DIA) specification.

The table below lists the specific identity anchors relevant for actors in your industry. Each actor SHOULD request the corresponding identity credential from their registrar and should make it discoverable by:

These tasks will normally be facilitated by the registrar such as industry-specific registers, business registries.

RoleIdentity Anchor TypeComment
Sample ProducerBusiness Registry DIA, Industry Registry DIAProducers should obtain identity anchors from their national business registry and any industry-specific registries (e.g., facility registrations)
Sample ProcessorBusiness Registry DIA, Example Identifier Scheme DIAProcessors should anchor to business registry and may use industry-specific identifier schemes if applicable to their products
Sample IntermediaryBusiness Registry DIAIntermediaries should at minimum anchor to their business registry registration

Buyers and Verifiers

Describe who the typical buyers and verifiers are in your industry value chain. Explain:

  • What credentials they should verify
  • When verification should occur (e.g., at point of sale, import/export, etc.)
  • What tools or systems they can use for verification
  • Any industry-specific verification requirements or best practices

Include examples of verification workflows specific to your industry, such as:

  1. Sample Retailer - Verifies product passports and conformity credentials at procurement to ensure ESG compliance
  2. Sample Importer - Verifies all upstream credentials to meet importing country regulatory requirements
  3. Sample Consumer - May verify sustainability claims via QR codes on product packaging

For detailed guidance on verification processes, see the Verification specification.
