UNVTD defines schemas for essential trade documents issued as W3C Verifiable Credentials  — digitally signed, portable, and verifiable without shared infrastructure.

Implementation steps

1. Choose your documents — identify which trade documents you issue or receive.
2. Adopt a schema — map your data to the relevant UNVTD JSON Schema and JSON-LD context.
3. Establish a DID — obtain a Decentralized Identifier linked to your business registration.
4. Issue credentials — sign documents with your DID using a business wallet or integrated software.
5. Verify conformance — run the conformance test suite.
