For Traders
For importers, exporters, and freight forwarders issuing or receiving UNVTD documents.
Issuing documents
You need three things:
- A business wallet — software that holds your signing keys and issues credentials. See the Software Register for compatible options.
- A DID — a Decentralized Identifier linked to your business registration. See Identity Anchoring for how a DID connects to a verifiable business identity.
- Conformant data — your trade data mapped to the relevant UNVTD schema. See the document schemas for field definitions and examples.
Receiving and verifying documents
Any UNVTD document can be verified without contacting the issuer — your wallet or trade platform handles this automatically. The conformance test suite can also validate documents manually.
Existing workflows
UNVTD documents coexist with paper and PDF — a signed credential can be rendered as a human-readable document and used as a drop-in replacement. For field mappings to ICC-DSI KTDDE data elements, see the KTDDE Compliance table.
