Specification
The specification is the heart of the Textiles Extension as it describes what implementers need to do to adopt the standard and start publishing and linking their data interoperably with others.
The Textiles Extension builds upon the core UN Transparency Protocol (UNTP) specification, providing textile-specific profiles, event types, and guidance while maintaining full compatibility with the underlying UNTP framework.
Overview
The Textiles Extension specification defines the technical requirements, data models, and implementation guidance for achieving interoperable traceability and transparency in textile and apparel supply chains. All Textiles Extension components are implemented as profiles or extensions of core UNTP constructs, ensuring consistency and interoperability across sectors.
Core UNTP Components
The Textiles Extension leverages the following core UNTP components:
- Digital Product Passport (DPP) — Product-level information and claims
- Digital Conformity Credential (DCC) — Third-party assessments and certifications
- Digital Traceability Event (DTE) — Supply chain transformations and logistics
- Digital Facility Record (DFR) — Facility-level information and capabilities
- Digital Identity Anchor (DIA) — Organizational identity representation
- Identity Resolver (IDR) — Identifier resolution services
- Sustainability Vocabulary Catalog (SVC) — Standardized vocabularies for ESG claims
For complete technical details on these core components, refer to the main UNTP specification.
Specification Components
The following pages document the Textiles Extension-specific implementations and profiles:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Architecture | Design principles, challenges, and component relationships that underpin the Textiles Extension |
| Digital Product Passports | Textile-specific product passport profiles for publishing product information and claims |
| Traceability Events | Textile-specific event types (cotton ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, etc.) for tracking material transformations |
| Facility Records | Textile-specific facility record profiles for publishing discoverable facility information |
| Conformity Credentials | Textile-specific conformity credential profiles, including Transaction Certificates for chain-of-custody |
| Identity Resolvers | Guidance on identifier schemes and resolution services for textile supply chains |
| Vocabularies | Textile-specific vocabularies and taxonomies for sustainability claims and classifications |
| Digital Identity Anchor | Identity representation for textile supply chain actors (uses UNTP DIA without modification) |
| Transaction Certificates | Detailed specification for Transaction Certificates, a DCC profile for shipment-level chain-of-custody |
Getting Started
If you're new to the Textiles Extension specification:
- Start with Architecture to understand the design principles and how components work together
- Review Use Cases to see how the specification addresses real-world supply chain scenarios
- Explore specific components based on your implementation needs (e.g., Traceability Events for material tracking, Conformity Credentials for certification)
- Refer to the main UNTP specification for foundational concepts and technical details
Implementation Status
The Textiles Extension specification is currently in draft status. Event types, schemas, and profiles are being developed and refined through working groups, pilot programs, and community contributions. See individual component pages for current version information and status.
